Something is broken

at Portland Public Schools.

What’s happening?

Portland Public Schools uses race as one factor in deciding which schools receive additional staff and resources.

Schools with similar academic needs can receive different funding outcomes based on racial composition.

In 2024, the district also ended local school fundraising foundations, replacing them with a centralized equity fund. District-wide fundraising dropped by more than 80% in one year.

A concerned Portland parent has filed a lawsuit challenging Portland Public Schools’ use of race in allocating staff, resources, and fundraising authority.

“The U.S. Constitution and courts exist precisely for moments like these—when good intentions lead to discrimination.

We can address educational inequities without abandoning equal treatment under law.
We can support struggling students without assuming needs based on race.
We can build inclusive communities without dividing children by skin color.”
